Dive into Learning

Planning a link-building budget is one of the most common tasks assigned to SEO specialists. One effective, data-driven method is to analyze the backlink profiles of your top competitors in the target region and mathematically determine the required budget based on this analysis.

The average time required to set the budget using the guide below is 12 minutes.

1. Identify the Main Competitors in Your Niche

You can use popular SEO tools like Ahrefs, Semrush, MOZ, Majestic, or Serpstat to find your competitors. We’ll demonstrate the process using our website, LinkBuilder.com, and the Ahrefs tool.

Enter your website into the Ahrefs search bar and navigate the Organic Competitors section from the left-hand menu. Select 5-10 direct niche competitors from the list. We recommend you steer clear of general-topic websites that may also appear.

Make sure you select the correct region at the top of the page.
